Contraindications and cautions

  • Infants under 6 months — apnoea, respiratory collapse and seizures reported (hard stop).
  • Glaucoma, obstructive uropathy or GI obstruction, myasthenia gravis.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Legacy FDA category B. No evidence of harm; use only if clearly needed.

Contraindicated while breastfeeding (US label) — apnoea reported in infants.

Clinical notes

Many Indian products combine dicyclomine with simethicone, paracetamol or mefenamic acid — check every component on the label. For infant colic prefer reassurance, feeding advice and simethicone.

Adult and adolescent (≥40 kg) dose

10–20 mg — Three to four times daily (max 40 mg per dose, 160 mg per day).
